McDonald's announced its intention to launch Fish McBites nationally via its Twitter page earlier this week. The product has been in test since early 2012 in markets such as Fort Worth, Texas, and is a spinoff of the chain's popular Chicken McBites, which were introduced in January 2012.
The Fish McBites feature "poppable" white flaky Alaskan Pollack, responsibly sourced and wild caught from sustainable fisheries.
To mark the launch, McDonald's is hosting a new music video contest with the chance to win money. Fans who submit a music video about the Fish McBites are eligible to compete for cash prizes totaling $40,000. Submissions will be accepted through Jan. 4.
McDonald's is also currently celebrating its annual offering of the cult-favorite McRib, which launched nationally earlier this month. The McDonald's #FirstMcRib Twitter Contest asks fans who are trying a McRib for the first time to tweet a photo of themselves enjoying the item for a chance to win $250.
SoCal units donate to local schools
Additionally, Southern California McDonald's restaurants donated nearly $140,000 raised through McTeacher's Night fundraising events that took place in October. Administrators of schools from across the area were invited to trade the classroom for a post behind the McDonald's counter, and earn a percentage of the total sales for classroom supplies, field trips and educational activities.
Throughout the month, principals and teachers from more than 200 participating schools became McDonald's employees for one evening. Families of students and community members visited their local McDonald's to support the cause and help raise funds.
