McDonald's tests geotargeted mobile marketing

To boost sales of its McCafe beverage line and drive in-store traffic, McDonald's has launched a geotargeted promotion that uses mobile ads to reach potential customers.

According to a recent news article, the restaurant chain is using the mobile ads to promote specific products. The company is using the iPhone application from Pandora to run the ads. The app identifies the location of the smartphone user and tells them the distance to the closest McDonald’s restaurant. It also gives the smartphone user additional information about the hot beverages that the company has to offer, including those available for only a limited time.
