Sonic breaks ground on Culinary Innovation Center

Earlier this week, Sonic held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new Culinary Innovation Center where the company's chefs will work to create new products, host focus groups and more.

According to a news release, CEO Cliff Hudson and VP of Product Innovation Claes Petersson spoke about the vision for the facility and how it relates to the broader goals for the brand, including product differentiation in the QSR space.

The facility will house a 3,429 square-foot kitchen, featuring a full customizable Sonic Drive-In kitchen, a bar area that seats six for small demos and a full dining room that seats 40 for larger meetings, tastings or focus groups. In addition, the kitchen will be equipped with video cameras for remote trainings, meetings, interviews and more. The whole space will feature a clean and classic design and minimalistic furnishings, the release said.

The construction project will be complete in three or four months. Sonic is working with Oklahoma City-based Van Hoose Construction on the project — the same company that built the corporate headquarters more than 10 years ago.
