Sonic expands football team-branded burgers

Aug. 23, 2013

When Kergan Brothers Sonic franchise group launched the Ragin' Cajun burger last August, it sold at 300 to 400 percent more than the average LTO.

Gary Wilkerson, the group's president, called it "off-the-grid successful."

Now, Sonic has expanded the fan-favorite burger line to include even more teams. The burgers feature an edible team logo on the top bun and debuted with the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.

This year, according to USA Today, fans of other teams can bite into the action as well.

The Louisiana Ragin' Cajur Bulldog Burger has returned. New is the Oklahoma "Sooner Brisket Cheeseburger." Oklahoma State and Texas are also expected to have a themed burger, as are the New Orleans Saints, according to Nola.com.

The edible logos are made with tapioca starch and food coloring. They are steamed onto the burger just before they're served. They will be available starting Aug. 26.
