Subway highlights technology 'Eatovations' at SXSW

During the SXSW festival this week in Austin, Texas, Subway showcased devices and wearable technology prototypes at its "Eatovations" exhibit at SXSUBWAY Square. The exhibit was created to complement the brand's new Flatizza offerings.

Eatovations were showcased throughout the festival via Subway's Twitter page. This year marked Subways' first appearance at SXSW as an exclusive sponsor.

"Given Subway's entrepreneurial beginnings (the sandwich chain was started 50 years ago by Fred Deluca, an enterprising 17-year-old from Connecticut), it is only fitting for the brand to decide to feed the innovators of today at SXSW. As Austin has become the epicenter of all things digital, cultural and edible, Subway was there serving up their all-new Flatizza," the company said in a release.

Among the Eatovations featured was the "Think Flatizza," a wearable device that is powered by brainwaves, the release said.

Also as part of Subway's sponsorship, "Subway Guy" Jared Fogle gave out Flatizzas, actor Seth Rogen participated in a Tumblr Q&A event, and actor Zac Effron was on hand at the brand's "SXSUBWAY" Square.
