Subway may open in United Kingdom school

July 17, 2012

Subway is in talks to potentially open an outlet in a high school in Greater Manchester, United Kingdom.

According to the Telegraph, Subway is one of a few options on the table for the concession at the school's Sixth Form college.

However, a poll conducted by the Manchester Evening News shows an overwhelming opposition to the company's presence at the school. More than 80 percent of readers are against the idea.

The school enrolls about 370 students. If the Subway plans come to fruition, it would be the chain's first franchise in a British school.

Subway plans to open 600 new units in the UK and Ireland by 2015. The world's largest restaurant chain includes a large nontraditional footprint such as airport, college and hospital locations.
