On the heels of its most successful product launch ever, Taco Bell has partnered with Major League Baseball to give away a free Doritos Locos Taco if any player seals a base during the World Series, which begins Oct. 24 between the San Francisco Giants and Detroit Tigers.
Taco Bell's "Steal a Base, Steal a Taco" promotion is its biggest MLB promotion of the year. In May, the brand featured the $5 Buck Big Hitter Box and offered fans the opportunity to play an exclusive Home Run Derby baseball game built from PlayStation's MLB The Show 2012.
For the series, if the first stolen base occurs during games one through four, fans will get free Doritos Locos Tacos on Oct. 30 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. local time at all participating Taco Bell locations.
If the first stolen base occurs during games five through seven, fans can redeem their free tacos on Nov. 5 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. local time at all participating Taco Bell locations.
Fans are invited to visit www.mlb.com/stealataco for more information on how to receive a free taco. The limit is one free taco per person.
"Baseball in October is a magical time, and we want to give America something to rally behind together, regardless of their favorite team," said Brian Niccol, chief marketing & innovation officer, Taco Bell Corp. "We can think of no better way to celebrate America's favorite pastime than by giving out what America tells us is their favorite taco, Doritos Locos Tacos!"
Taco Bell first partnered with Major League Baseball in 2004. Its "Steal a Base, Steal a Taco" campaign made its debut for the 2007 World Series, and has continued due to its success.
Taco Bell will support the promotion with an integrated marketing effort that includes advertising (television, radio, online), social media and public relations. Furthering consumer engagement, fans will be encouraged to share their predictions on Taco Bell's Facebook page of when the stolen base will happen. On Twitter, they will be invited to join @TacoBell in supporting their favorite baseball players (via their handles) and campaigning for #stealataco.
