Tim Hortons pitches in for Philippines disaster relief

Tim Hortons today announced that it will make a $100,000 donation to support emergency disaster relief efforts in the Philippines in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan. The company will also encourage team members and guests to contribute to the relief efforts through in-restaurant communications.

According to a news release, the donation will be directed to the Red Cross in support of its efforts to assist the victims and help with the recovery process.

"Our deepest sympathies go out to all those affected by this terrible tragedy," said Marc Caira, president and CEO, Tim Hortons. "The needs in the Philippines are enormous and our contribution reflects the importance of the critical relief and recovery efforts underway as we keep the victims and their families in our thoughts."

Tim Hortons joins a handful of other restaurant chains that have pledged their support to help with recovery, including McDonald's and Yum! Brands. Also, today the Coca-Cola Company announced that it will donate more than $2.5 million in cash and in-kind contributions to support the relief efforts in the Philippines.

"We would like to express our deepest sympathies to those affected by this tragic disaster in the Philippines," said Muhtar Kent, chairman and CEO, The Coca-Cola Company. "Our dedicated associates are on the ground offering assistance, and we are committed to helping the communities rebuild."

Coca-Cola Philippines is providing $1 million for additional relief initiatives, community rehabilitation and to assist small independent customers with reconstruction. The Coca-Cola Foundation in Atlanta has contributed $1 million to the American National Red Cross for humanitarian aid to the Philippines. By the end of this week, the Coca-Cola system will have donated 129,000 cases of water to the affected communities, representing an in-kind contribution valued at $590,000.
