Whataburger launches Facebook contest to find local 'heroes'

Dec. 4, 2012

Whataburger will honor a series of "Hometown Heroes" who give back to their communities through a new Facebook contest.

The brand's Facebook fans are now invited to nominate people who make a difference in their local community for the chance to win a free breakfast for themselves and 20 of their friends. In the past, nominees have ranged from coaches and teachers to single parents and volunteers.

Selection will be based on the compelling story and why that person is considered an unsung hero.

Whataburger will accept nominations on its Facebook page through Dec. 21, and a winner will be selected and announced every week through Dec. 28. The selected Hometown Heroes will each receive a breakfast party for up to 20 guests at his or her neighborhood Whataburger.

"We have some of the most generous fans and customers who are more than worthy of being recognized for their community contributions - even though they are always more than happy to do what they do with no recognition at all," said Pam Cox, group director of communications for Whataburger. "We are excited to have the chance to honor a few of the amazing, everyday heroes in our local communities who you might not see in the local newspaper, but deserve to be celebrated for what they do to help others."
