Subway has been testing a cafe concept since 2008. The idea has expanded into 15 units, which have a similar menu to the flagship brand, with added bakery and coffee items and higher-end decor.
Subway Cafes have a coffeehouse feel, with comfortable furniture, flatscreen TVs and WiFi.
There are two points-of-sale, one for the signature sandwich line and another for the coffee/bakery items unique to Subway Cafe.
Branding for Subway Cafe is similar to the flagship company. Only 15 of them exist thus far, with a few more planned.
Subway Cafe's signature menu items are premium beverages, such as espressos and lattes, along with the sandwich line the chain has become famous for.
The biggest difference between a Subway and a Subway Cafe is the decor. The latter offers higher-end features, evident from the lighting to the counter.
Also standard in the Subway Cafe interior space is a fireplace focal point, again giving it that coffeehouse atmosphere.
