In 'Game of Thrones' age, Arby's intros the inevitable: Giant turkey legs

Grab your animal-skin coats and head to Arby's for a grab-stick of gobbler beginning this Sunday.

In the age of "Game of Thrones," giant smoked turkey legs were almost an inevitable next step for "We've got the meats" QSR, Arby's. Arby's has earned renown as the QSR spot for offbeat, in-your-face slabs of meat, giant turkey legs were bound to end up running into the smokers at the longtime chain.

According to a news release late Tuesday, the trademark medieval grab-sticks of gobbler in all their salty, brown-sugared glory  will be available in nine regions nationwide beginning Sunday, Aug. 27. Even without a sponsorship between the chain and the tremendously trendy "Game of Thrones" series, Arby's is clearly hoping to capitalize on that phenomenon.

In fact, from the chosen locations for the LTO and their descriptions in company press materials, it's obvious that the chain is working hard to make the connection with the millions of viewers of the series. For instance, here are the press packet descriptions for two of the nine LTO locations:

  • For the Fargo, North Dakota store at 38th Street NW, "a frigid land in the north with ruthless winters and relentless snowfall. "
  • For the Los Angeles, Alhambra AreaEast Main Street store, "a western land known for its bountiful amount of gold and riches."

The other seven cities offering the Henry VIII-style LTO next week are given similarly Game of Thrones-esque descriptions. They include: Denver; Phoenix; Seattle; Norfolk, Virginia; Omaha, Nebraska; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and of course, Arby's headquarters city of Atlanta.

This, like the ravenously popular venison offerings the chain has put out in the past, is another so-called "limited-edition" offering available while "supplies last." On that note, we proclaim, "Hear ye, hear ye, yon gobbler gobblers, prepare ye for epic wait times."
