Keep an eye out for a team member who takes new peers under their wing; you just might have had an excellent trainer under your nose.

‘Tis the season to bring in newcomers to your business and introduce them to your team. You are probably focused on making sure everyone gets along, understands the goals for the week and cranks out excellent customer service with each sale.
However, now is also a great time to set your sights on long term benefits of bringing new hands on deck.
Here are a few ways to ensure you maximize the impact your temporary hires can have on your business this season:
Reevaluate your process
Sometimes bringing in a new set of eyes can pull out the best, and the worst, in how your team works to accomplish goals. Take note of the questions your new hire is asking or if there seems to be an area of training that’s difficult for them to learn. It may be time to re-evaluate that process or look at other technologies and techniques available to help your team work more effectively.
Recognize growth opportunities
Bringing in a new hire can automatically bring out the leader in a group. Keep an eye out for a team member who seems to take new peers under their wing and get them acclimated with the team. You just might have had an excellent trainer or assistant manager right under your nose.
Build a pipeline for future talent
Just because you’re only bringing on this new hire for the holiday season doesn’t mean they should leave with no hopes of returning. If they fit well with your team and had great work ethic, share the details of your typical hiring cycle and that you’d like to have them come back again. Giving that feedback will leave a great impression of your company and may land you with some summer help you know you can rely on.
We know the holiday season can be hectic but take a moment to recognize your team and where you want to go in the future and you can set yourself up for long-term success.
Happy hiring!
