Top 3 things to know about hourly hiring in 2015

The upcoming year will be filled with changes and trends that affect how you interact with both job seekers and current employees.

February 10, 2015 by Jason Hamilton — VP of Marketing, Snagajob

The New Year is officially underway, and plenty of people are penning lists of what you need to know for 2015. The hourly industry is no different; the upcoming year will be filled with changes and trends that affect how you interact with both job seekers and current employees. We broke down some of our observations into three simple points to keep in mind as you work to make this year even better than the last.

1. It's all about mobile. Job seekers are continuing to search for work on their mobile devices, and that’s not ending anytime soon. More than half of all applications are now submitted via a mobile device. So if your job postings or applicant tracking systems aren’t mobile friendly, you could be losing more than 90 percent of potential job seekers to a poor user experience. Take some time to create postings that are more mobile friendly.

2. Being local and small is an asset for your recruiting. We asked Snagajob members if they'd prefer working for a small or large business, and more than 60 percent said they desire to work for a small business. Fifty-eight percent of those looking for a small business position are between 16-24 years old, so be sure to highlight your small business status when engaging with this audience. Today's job seekers are looking for some of the perks associated with working for a small business, including a flexible schedule and location close to home, but they also want to feel connected to their community and make a difference where they live.

3. Growing your people will grow your business. The changing environment around minimum wage may be dampening your confidence when it comes to recruiting, but job seekers are open to options. When asked, job seekers are responsive to training and personal development if they aren't able to get a wage increase. You can also make open positions more attractive by advertising the benefits of the job, such as shift preference or free meals, to attract top talent.

Let this list be your guide as you devise your own plan of action to make the most of 2015.
