Wendy's to fellow QSRs: Hey Porky, we were here first!

The Ohio-based chain today sent out a news release making it very clear that before its competitors joined the bacon bandwagon — bacon-crusted pizza wars and high-end bacon ice cream recipes  — Wendy's was already bringing home the bacon.

Maybe Wendy's is getting a little defensive. Or maybe the chain is just hoping to capitalize on America's surging love for all things bacon. Regardless of the reasoning, the fact remains that the Ohio-based chain today sent out a news release making it very clear that before all this bacon love began — with things like bacon-crusted pizza wars and high-end bacon ice cream recipes — Wendy's was already in a pretty heavy relationship with bacon.

In fact, the news release sounds a little like somebody in Wendy's Dublin, Ohio headquarters thought it was high time they told the world, just who was bringing home the bacon in the fast food industry long before anybody else was thinking about it.

"Facts are facts," the news release starts. "And the fact is that for nine years, Wendy's has proven that there is only one Baconator. … In fact, you can smell it cooking in our restaurants."

Actually, the chain did have a good reason to send out a news release, which it finally got to in the second-to-last paragraph. Seems Wendy's is bringing back its Baconator Fries because … well … they were here first and that's just more proof. After all, cheese-and-bacon-smothered potatoes are pretty compatible with that piggy-topped burger.

On top of all this, the chain's marketing chief said Baconator remains the "best" bacon burger around since he said it uses beef that's "raised close so that it never needs to see a freezer" and it's topped with "real bacon cooked the right way, not in a microwave like some others use."

Not sure what the "right way" is or what "others" they're referring to, but consider this another blast in the ongoing battle of the bacon.
