2 national chains show how to do good by just doing business

April 7, 2017

Uncle Maddio's and Jersey Mike's are sharing their success with organizations committed to helping people in their communities. Autism, for example, is at the center of an April campaign at Uncle Maddio's benefiting Autism Speaks, while Jersey Mike's customers showed a record amount of local "love" during its participation in the Seventh Annual Month of Giving in March.

Uncle Maddio's is asking customers to donate $5 through its' Give $5 Get $5 campaign, where every $5 donation yields the donor a $5 bounce-back offer for the next week at the pizza chain. Proceeds go to support Autism Speaks.

"It is important to the Uncle Maddio's team that we display our ‘served with love' culture by supporting causes that affect our local communities," Uncle Maddio's CEO Matt Andrew, said in a news release. "We make it a priority to create partnerships with charitable organizations that allow us to contribute in a meaningful way.  Autism Speaks is an organization that's important to us and we are honored to partner with them."

All those who donate can tell the world they did a great thing by displaying news of their contribution on the restaurant wall. Uncle Maddio's locations are backing that up by lighting their restaurants in blue for the entire month of April, in honor of the cause.

Jersey Mike's customers in March at1,200 national locations contributed $5.5 million, including $4.6 million on March 29 when all Jersey Mike's sales proceeds — not just profits —  were donated to the needs of 150 national charities that help fund neighborhood needs nationwide.

"I would like to thank our extraordinary customers, franchise owners, team members and charity partners who helped us raise the most ever during Jersey Mike's Seventh Annual Month of Giving in March," Jersey Mike's founder and CEO Peter Cancro, said in a news release. "Our mission statement has always been focused on making a difference in people's lives, and the over $5.5 million raised this March will go a long way toward supporting the good work of our local partner charities.”

Throughout the month, customers made donations at the chain's outlets, culminating in the March 29 Day of Giving. Recipients of the donations include schools, hospitals, youth organizations, food banks and other charitable organizations.
