Aloha to Culver's new ButterBurger

July 28, 2010

Culver's will soon add the Luau Burger to its lineup of signature ButterBurgers. The Hawaiian-themed item was conceptualized by Aana Blalock of Rapid City, S.D., who won this year's Ultimate ButterBurger Build-Off Contest.

The winning Luau Burger pairs a bit of Wisconsin and Hawaiian cuisine with the signature ButterBurger patty and lightly toasted, buttered bun.

The burger is topped with a pineapple ring marinated in teriyaki sauce and a slice of Wisconsin cheddar cheese, adding a tropical twist to the classic recipe.

For developing the winning recipe, Culver's will bring Blalock's family to Wisconsin and lodge them in the presidential suite at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells. While there, Blalock will work with CEO Craig Culver and executive chef Jim Doak to refine the final recipe.

“With more than 1,300 delicious burger recipes, the decision wasn’t an easy one,” said Culver.

Culver’s launched the build-off contest in May to challenge fans to create a new, unique burger that would complement the legendary ButterBurger.

“Teriyaki is a popular flavor trend that works great for ButterBurgers,” says Doak. “Aana’s recipe is a unique twist on our signature ButterBurger – it pairs the familiar, cheddar, with the exotic, pineapple.”

Blalock, her husband Jack and their three sons, ages 4, 6 and 8, live in South Dakota, where Jack is a Major in the Air Force. He is being deployed to the Middle East in August, and will therefore be unable to join his family in Wisconsin.
