Amy's Drive Thrus score high on social, environmental certification

Northern California organic fast food brand, Amy's Drive Thru and its sister San Francisco Bay area business, Amy's Kitchen have achieved Certified B Corporation status, indicating that the restaurant and organic food company have achieved a high level of social and environmental performance as dictated by certification company, B Lab, a news release said.

B Lab reviews companies hoping to achieve certifications around their governance, workers, community, environment and customers. Amy's was recognized for the benefits the company offers to people and the environment, as well as social responsibility with its employees and communities.

The Petaluma, California-based Amy's Kitchen was an early advocate of organic eating and plant-based food, through the company's commitment to vegetarian meals, organic ingredients and employee and community health.

"When we founded Amy's over three decades ago it was based on the premise that making great tasting food, from responsibly sourced, organic ingredients, would fulfill a need and make people's lives easier," Andy Berliner, Amy's Kitchen and Amy's Drive Thru founder and chairman, said in the release. "Achieving B Corp certification cements what we've always believed to be true, and we're looking forward to working closely with B Lab and other B Corps to learn best practices and identify more ways we can evolve and improve."

Andy Fyfe, Growth Catalyst for B Lab in the U.S. and Canada, said Amy's scores were over or above average for the certification.

"While the median score for the average company is 50.9, Amy's score of 102.7 showcases its longstanding leadership as a brand that is devoted to doing good by people and the planet through its products and company practices," Fyfe said in the release.

Amy's Kitchen is a family owned company that also sells organic frozen and packaged foods in more than 28 other countries around the globe. Amy's Drive Thru has three locations in northern California with plans to expand to more locations in the near future.
