An app that allows employees to message co-workers without having to divulge personal phone numbers is now available. Entrepreneurs Danny Leffel and Broc Miramontes created the app, Crew, after discovering that their favorite local Mexican restaurant, Don Ramon's, struggled with workplace communication, according to a company press release.
"Before we started using Crew, it was a constant struggle to deal with changes to the shift schedule," said Nati Ramirez, owner of Don Ramon's. "Now, I tell employees that it's their responsibility to use Crew to get shifts covered and it's not a problem anymore."
Crew is in use at more than 10,000 workplaces in the US, according to Ramirez, who said that most of those customers, prior to discovering Crew, used either text messaging or consumer apps, such as WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger to communicate.
"Those apps aren't designed for business use and tend to create tons of problems in the workplace," said Leffel, CEO of Crew. "Crew is working because it takes the phones that everyone already has and turns them into a new powerful tool for work."
In addition to messaging, Crew provides modules that extend its functionality. Some of the most popular modules include: Tasks, Shift Schedules, Attendance Tracking and Walkie-Talkie functions. New modules are being added frequently, Leffel said.
