Arby's reports 'meaty' results in Q3

October 27, 2016

Arby’s said today that it saw a  2.4 percent increase in same-store sales during Q3 in the U.S. The brand has now achieved a two-year SSS growth of 12 percent, according to a news release.

How good is that? According to Arby’s that’s double the 1.2 percent SSS growth that it measured a representative sample of QSR chains experiencing over the same period.

The growth indicates the chain — which Wednesday launched venison sandwich LTO offering at select stores— has achieved 24 straight quarters of increases in this area, as well as 15 consecutive quarters of above average performance,as compared to the rest of the industry. It is also the tenth straight quarter of transaction growth for the brand.

The brand also said it’s system-wide Average Unit Volume hit a new record of $1.1 million as of the end of Q3.

"The record Average Unit Volume among our system-wide restaurants is a testament to the collective efforts we've made along with our franchisees to continue to strengthen the Arby's brand,” said Arby's CEO Paul Brown, in a news release. "Our multi-year trend of continued transaction growth is also a sign of the underlying strength of the Arby's brand as we continue to attract new guests to our restaurants. …

"Sliders have helped us provide value to our guests that is focused, not just on price, but on a wide variety of high quality proteins. We expect the Sliders platform, paired with high quality, premium core menu items and innovative LTO's, to remain a significant component of our menu strategy going forward."

Third quarter highlights include:

•    Increasing restaurant development, including 28 new restaurants and 155 more remodeled system-wide in 2016.
•    Inaugural sports sponsorship in the form of the brand's official connection with PGA Tour player, Andrew "Beef" Johnston, connecting with the chain’s emphasis on all things meat-related.
•    Raised $21 million for No Kid Hungry in past five years, leading to an IFA Enduring Impact Award for philanthropy.
