Australian company loses franchise rights for Baskin-Robbins

October 21, 2010

Allied Brands Ltd., an Australian-based franchise company, has lost its rights for its Baskin-Robbins units in that country.

The stores' operations have been taken over by Dunkin' Brands, headquartered in Massachusetts.

According to Smart Company, a settlement agreement wasn't reached, and McGrath Nicol has been appointed receiver and manager of Allied Brands' subsidiary Allied Brands Services.

Baskin-Robbins accounted for more than 21 percent of Allied's total revenue last year. The company operated 95 units across Australia.

From the story:

"Dunkin' Brands is completely committed to the Australian market and believes there is great potential for future growth," Dunkin' chief executive Nigel Travis said in a statement. "We look forward to a seamless transition with Allied Brands and providing our franchisees with a renewed platform for growth."
