Australian restaurant industry to grow $11B over 5 years

IBIS World Industry has published a report on the restaurant industry in Australia.

IBIS World Industry has published a report on the restaurant industry in Australia, the company announced. The industry is expected to post yearly growth of 3.6 percent over five years, including a rise of 2.0 percent during the current year, to total $11.7 billion, according to the report.

The company attributes this growth to "busier lifestyles and diminishing leisure time" that lead consumers to turn to restaurants as a solution combining both dining and leisure.

On consumer demand for quality food and fine dining the past five years, IBIS Analyst Stephen Gargano said, "The industry's performance has been lifted by the success of popular cooking TV shows, which have reconnected people with the pleasures of eating out.".

Evolving food culture and consumer health consciousness are segments of the industry that IBIS expects will provide opportunities for growth. The competition will be tough, IBIS predicts, as categories such as QSR capitalize on informal dining that contains healthier menu options and quality meals and ingredients. Competitive threats, include pubs, cafes and supermarket prepared meals, IBIS reported.
