Australians eating up McDonald's growth

August 22, 2010

Due to high demand, McDonald's has opened 50 new restaurants in Australia in the past three years. The number of customers visiting the chain has reached a record 1.7 million, up by 500,000 visitors since 2007.

According to News.Com.Au, there are now 811 outlets in the country, versus the two closest quick-service chains KFC, with 540, and Hungry Jack's, at 340 restaurants.

Global sales for the company were up 4.2 percent in the second quarter. Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa's (APMEA) 19 percent operating income increase was supported mostly by Australia and China's daypart expansion and core menu extensions.
