A&W expansion expected in Malaysia

Malaysia and Thailand will get nine new A&W units by the end of 2011 behind a development agreement with KUB Malaysia Bhd.

According to Bernama, five of those outlets will be in Malaysia and four will be in Thailand.

KUB currently has 45 A&W units in Malaysia and 41 in Thailand.

Additionally, Datuk Mohd Nazar Samad, KUB's managing director, said several parties have expressed interest in taking up a stake in A&W Sdn Bhd., which is a KUB subsidiary. A strategic shareholder is expected to be finalized by the end of the year. A new partnership will boost further expansion in the two countries.

KUB, which has been the A&W franchise since 2002, will remain the majority shareholder, however.
