Hurricane Katrina destroyed six Baskin-Robbins units in New Orleans. On the fifth anniversary of that disaster, a grand opening celebration was held for a Baskin-Robbins in the same location as one of the shops that was forced to close.
It is the first Baskin-Robbins unit to open in New Orleans since the hurricane.
The new location, at 1515 E. Judge Perez Dr., just south of the Ninth Ward, is owned by William and Catherine McIntyre, who are New Orleans natives. Their objective is to help drive a resurgence of Baskin-Robbins units in the market.
"We saw this as a great opportunity to help revitalize an area that was devastated by Hurricane Katrina," said William McIntyre. "We have confidence in the continued re-growth of the community and continue to do all we can to help restore the city and make it even better than before Katrina struck."
