Ice cream chain,Ben & Jerry's, has joined with the Sierra Club on a renewable energy push nationwide in October, through both a social media initiative and hosted events at 12 Ben & Jerry's scoop shops in the U.S., a news release said.

Over the course of the month, people will be asked to share their thoughts with Sierra Club's Ready for 100 campaign on how important they see protecting their community's health and further local clean energy solutions to address the climate crisis. Ben & Jerry's is offering free kid's size scoops of ice cream to participants at events.

In fact, the partnership actually kicked off earlier this summer in Ben & Jerry's home base of Burlington, already one of six cities now powered by 100% renewable energy. Similarly, more than 130 other U.S. cities and seven states have committed to power themselves with 100% clean energy, the release said.

"We have a long history of fighting for climate justice and looking for ways to reduce the environmental impact of our business," Ben & Jerry's Global Social Mission Manager Chris Miller, said in the release. "As a food company that sources ingredients from all around the world, climate change is already impacting our business. We, and the Sierra Club, understand the urgency of this moment. We truly do not have time to waste."

Remaining Ice Cream Action events at the chain's stores this month include:

  • Oct. 17 in Sarasota, Florida.
  • Oct. 18 in Boise, Idaho and Minneapolis, Minnesota.
  • Oct. 19 in Boulder and Denver, Colorado, Coral Gables, Florida, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (in West Philly) and New Haven, Connecticut.

Events have already taken place in West Hartford, Connecticut, as well as Manchester, New Hampshire and Charleston, South Carolina.
