Boardwalk Fresh Burgers & Fries expands into Oregon

Lucky Patel, master developer for Boardwalk Fresh Burgers and Fries, has started his expansion in Oregon, recently bringing on board new franchisees, business partners Anu Kumar and Nick Kumar.

The team has recently signed a lease for the first location in Peterkort Town Square on Southwest Barnes Road in Portland.

"My first location was in a complex that I used to work in 13 years ago as a manager of a Subway. It just seemed like a good fit, since I already knew how the area businesses were performing," Anu Kumar said.

They plan further expansion in partnership with Patel in the Portland market.

Anu and Nick Kumar both have a hospitality background. Anu said he heard about the Boardwalk brand through various media publications and its 30-year history was attractive.

"It seems that the better burger sector is on the rise and with so many concepts out there, it was very important to choose one that would be around. I felt it best to choose one that already had experience in doing business with franchisees. Since Boardwalk Fries, with 150 plus locations for the last 30 years, has been dealing with franchisees, they would have the experience and expertise to help with my business," he said.

Boardwalk Fresh Burgers & Fries currently has more than 450 units in development, which include Patel's plans to open more than 30 restaurants in Oregon, with a focus on the Portland Metropolitan Area and in Cowlitz County, Wash.
