Boston Teamsters threaten Dunkin' Donuts boycott

May 5, 2010

The Boston-based Teamsters Local 25 is threatening to call a boycott against Dunkin' Donuts because it believes the company's largest distributor is stalling over signing a new contract agreement, reports the Boston Herald. The Teamsters may call for its members to picket and boycott Dunkin' Donuts stores unless the contract is signed soon.

Nearly 200 truckers and other workers joined the union last year and have yet to sign a contract with Dunkin' Donuts Northeast DCP, a cooperative owned by regional franchisees. The Teamsters fear the co-op is delaying signing of the new contract in order to vote for decertification of the union in August.

Dunkin' Donuts does not own the distribution company. The co-op has denied it is using stall tactics but is participating in negotiations.
