The breakfast war between QSRs drove U.S. customer transactions up at quick service restaurants despite all the negative impact on the restaurant industry due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The push on breakfast deals drove a 4% increase in sales for the week ending March 8 compared to a year ago, according to The NPD Group. Meanwhile, customer transactions at full service restaurants dipped by 3% and by 5% at fast casual dining chains, according to a press release.
"In these uncertain times, we are monitoring trends to detect possible disruption in the market, but thus far, the QSR sector has been resilient," said David Portalatin, NPD food industry advisor, in the release. "In good and bad times, consumers are always looking for convenience and value and they get that at QSR restaurants."
