The Automat-powered Brooklyn Dumpling Shop, which QSRweb recently profiled, has signed its first franchising deal and it will bring five locations to Connecticut before its first New York City location opens in the East Village, according to a news release.

"I am very excited about Brooklyn Dumpling Shop, the brand's innovative technology is exciting and the food is delicious," the first franchisee, who is requesting to be anonymous for now, said in the release. "Getting into the brand early is a very wise decision. In the next two or three years, I expect we will see a lot of Automat restaurants, so it's great to jump on board with the innovative concept now."

Dumpling flavor combinations are developed by Brooklyn Dumpling Shop founder, Stratis Morfogen, and inspired by traditional diner delights such as cheeseburgers, French onion soup and even peanut butter and jelly. The dumplings are created via robotic technology and, as a result, the concept doesn't need a full kitchen staff to operate.

"We are thrilled to team up with this franchisee, who has a tremendous track record in QSR," Morfogen said in the release. "We couldn't have picked a better partner for Connecticut."

The franchisee's first location will be in New Haven, where Yale University is located. The 24-hour concept was created in part with college students in mind, with an eye toward campus locations. The brand is seeking to open 500 units in the next five years.

Brooklyn Dumpling Shop is looking for experienced franchisees and qualified investors to introduce the concept to major media markets across the country. The opening date of the first store has not been announced, except that it is set for this spring.
