The nearly 200-store Bruster's Real Ice Cream chain has used technology to engage customers, increase its presence nationally and generally prove it is "pandemic-proof," according to a news release.
CEO Jim Sahene said in 2020 same-store sales grew 17%, total transactions gained nearly 5.5%, and the company signed nearly 30 franchise agreements. Existing franchisees made up 40% of those deals.
Bruster's, which is based in Bridgewater, Pennsylvania, also opened four stores in Austin, Texas and Ashburn, Virginia, as well as Bowie, Maryland and Polaris, Ohio.
It expects to open 25 stores this year.
