Bruster's Real Ice Cream recently opened a store in one of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania's most popular neighborhoods, Squirrel Hill, on Browns Hill Road, a news release said.

Led by first-time franchisee and owner Chad McWreath, the 1,300-square-foot store has three serving windows, one pickup window and a fenced patio. Though the store opened in late May, the grand opening is being held July 2 through July 4 as part of National Ice Cream Month.

"We've proudly welcomed Chad to the Bruster's family as he opens the next great store in our home market," Bruster's CEO Jim Sahene, said in the release. "His vision for Squirrel Hill is one of great responsibility and understanding of what a simple smile – or great scoop of ice cream – can do for the community. He is a wonderful fit for Bruster's, and we are excited to join him on his journey as a franchisee."

McWreath took special measures to make his shop inclusive by earning Kosher certification, complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act regulations and providing delivery services.

"Our store hopes to provide a small oasis for the Squirrel Hill community they can be deeply connected to," McWreath said in the release. "We want the community to know it's 'their Bruster's' … and in fact, it will be."

Bruster's of Squirrel Hill marks the brand's eleventh Pittsburgh-area location and 22nd overall in Pennsylvania.

Currently, Bruster's Real Ice Cream has nearly 200 independently owned locations in 21 states, Guyana and South Korea.
