Burger ban is weighed in San Jose
August 14, 2008
Mercury News: San Jose, Calif., City Council members have proposed a one-year citywide moratorium on new fast food restaurants, citing an April 2008 study by the Center for Public Health Advocacy. The study found that people who live near an abundance of fast-food restaurants and convenience stores have a significantly higher prevalence of obesity and diabetes, regardless of individual or community income.
The proposal is similar to a moratorium the Los Angeles City Council approved last month for south Los Angeles. Meanwhile,The California Restaurant Association has called such restrictions unfair.
