Burger King adding fries as burger topping

August 28, 2013

On Sept. 1, Burger King will begin offering its new "French Fry Burger" for $1. The Associated Press reported the company is looking to "drum up sales and customer interest" with the launch.

The burger features a beef patty topped with four french fries, and comes in at 360 calories. By featuring it for $1, Burger King continues to play into the value wars heating up in the QSR segment.

In February, executives said they were shifting to a value messaging focus amidst a continued slow economy and tougher competition.

Steve Wiborg, president, BK North America, said Burger King had experienced a sales slowdown from a "meaningful uptick of the value messaging done by our competitors."

A year ago, Checker's and Rally's introduced a similar product — the Fry Lover's Burger, which was topped with the brands' seasoned fries.
