Burger King again considers $1 double cheeseburger
July 8, 2009
Chicago Tribune: A Burger King franchisee has confirmed the company has asked franchisees to consider temporarily dropping the price of their double cheeseburger to $1, a move likely aimed at igniting a burger battle with McDonald's.
The price cut would be for about four months, said John McNelis, president of the real estate division of Mirabile Investment Corp., which owns more than 40 Burger King stores in the Memphis area and which recently was ordered to remove controversial messaging about global warming on its outdoor signage.
Last year, McDonald's removed its double cheeseburger from its dollar menu, raising the price to $1.19 and adding a new double burger with only one slice of cheese to the dollar menu.
