Burger King among companies opposing card-check bill

Bloomberg News: Burger King Holdings Inc., Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Home Depot Inc. are among the companies that are opposing a union-backed "card-check" bill.Starbucks Corp., Costco Wholesale Corp. and Whole Foods Market Inc. offered an alternative to the card-check legislation that U.S. business groups are spending millions of dollars to defeat. The legislation, known as the Employee Free Choice Act, would let employees form a union once a majority signed cards requesting one. Currently, companies have the right to require a secret-ballot election to unionize.
