Burger King Canada franchisee continues expansion

New Brunswick-based BKR Management Inc. is hosting a grand opening celebration Sunday to mark its eighth Burger King restaurant in Atlantic Canada. The new unit is located at 57 Starrs Rd. in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

According to a news release, the company will be announcing two additional new locations opening in Newfoundland and New Brunswick by the end of June.

"Our growing presence in Atlantic Canada is evidence of the strength of the Burger King brand as well as the great-tasting food Canadians love and expect from the Burger King experience," Director of Operations, Rhonda Mawhinney, said in the release. "We are proud to be opening the first Burger King location in Yarmouth and two other new locations in Gander and Fredericton."

In April of 2013, Burger King Worldwide announced the sale of Burger King Restaurants of Canada - including 94 company-owned locations - to Redberry Investments, a privately held corporation with offices in Montreal, Toronto, Calgary and Detroit. Redberry is the master franchisee for the company in Canada, representing approximately 280 Burger King restaurants nationwide.

There are currently 15 BK franchisees in the Maritimes who own and operate 29 restaurant locations across the region. BKR Management Inc. owns and operates eight locations in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and PEI.
