Burger King debuts Angry Whopper in Japan

July 22, 2009

Burger King is introducing its Angry Whopper in Japan in an effort to win its burger war with rival McDonald's.
According to a story in the Los Angeles Times, Burger King hosted an "angry shouting challenge" contest in downtown Tokyo this week, inviting passers-by to scream away their frustrations.

The Angry Whopper, which was introduced in the United States last year, features a burger patty, jalapeno chili peppers, hot sauce, onions, cheese, bacon, tomatoes and lettuce on a sesame seed bun. The sauce has been slightly adapted to Japanese tastes.

No. 2 burger chain Burger King, which operates 11,600 restaurants around the world, has only 16 stores in Japan, mostly in Tokyo. The company abandoned the Japanese market in 2001 but returned to the country in 2007.
