Burger King debuts another new menu

Burger King continues to show off its extensive product pipeline, introducing another handful of new items, this time as part of a "regionally inspired summer BBQ menu."

The menu features 13 products, some new and some returning. The tangy Carolina BBQ and hickory smoked Memphis BBQ options are back from last summer's debut.

Meanwhile, a rib sandwich has been unveiled, with a boneless rib patty, sweet and tangy BBQ sauce, sweet pickles and a toasted artisan-style bun. This introduction has led many to believe that Burger King is directly challenging McDonald's cult-favorite McRib sandwich.

Also included on the new menu are:

  • BBQ Chicken Salad:With seven blended lettuces topped with white meat chicken fillet, grape tomatoes, a blend of Monterrey Jack, cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, and drizzled with sweet BBQ Sauce. It is served with Ken's Honey Mustard Dressing and topped with the choice of juicy Tendercrisp or Tendergrill chicken.
  • Memphis BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich:Combining pulled pork with the hickory-smoked and sweet flavor of Memphis BBQ Sauce, topped with crisp sliced onions and a sweet southern dressing, all on a toasted artisan-style bun.
  • Carolina BBQ Whopper Sandwich and BBQ Whopper Jr. Sandwich:A southern BBQ twist on a ¼ lb. of fire-grilled beef is topped with naturally smoked thick-cut bacon, melted Pepper Jack cheese, iceberg lettuce, crisp red onions, ripe tomatoes, featuring a sweet southern dressing and covered in tangy Carolina BBQ sauce, on a sesame seed bun.
  • Carolina BBQ Tendercrisp Sandwich: A white meat chicken fillet is breaded with homemade seasoning then topped with naturally smoked thick-cut bacon, melted Pepper Jack cheese, iceberg lettuce, crisp red onions, ripe tomatoes, featuring a sweet southern dressing and covered in tangy Carolina BBQ sauce, on a sesame seed bun.
  • Sweet Potato Fries: Featuring a combination of salty and sweet flavors.
  • Buffalo Chicken Strips:White meat chicken, available in three- and five-pieces, marinated and battered in seasoned home-style breading and a savory buffalo sauce.
  • Frozen Lemonade and Frozen Strawberry Lemonade: Serving sizes include 12 oz., 16 oz. and 20 oz.
  • Chunky Cookie Made with Oreo Pieces:A warm cookie made with Oreo pieces and baked fresh daily.
  • Oreo Shake:Blending vanilla soft serve, Oreo cookie pieces and vanilla sauce, with whipped topping.
  • Oreo Sundae:Made-to-order, this sundae layers chocolate fudge sauce, vanilla soft serve and real Oreo cookie pieces.

"Seeing the success we had with our initial BBQ menu last year, we wanted to expand upon our regionally inspired offerings and provide our guests with Summer BBQ flavors fresh off the grill," said Flavia Faugeres, executive vice president and global chief marketing officer, Burger King Worldwide Inc. "Burger King's unique fire-grilling cooking technique allows for us to create these various BBQ items in the traditional way they are meant to be made — over a flame."

The new summer menu is available starting May 21 at participating restaurants in the U.S.
