Burger King names 1st Suriname franchisees

MIAMI — Burger King Corp. has announced that it has awarded development rights in Suriname, in northern South America, to the following franchise developers: Shanker Persaud, Anil Raghoebarsingh, Sanjay Raghoebarsingh and Armand Van Alen.
The first Suriname Burger King restaurant to be launched is expected to open during the second half of 2008 in the capital city of Paramaribo. The freestanding restaurant will include Wi-Fi access, a state-of-the-art indoor playground, lounge area and coffee counter, according to a press release. Additional restaurant openings throughout the country are scheduled during the next three years.
The Burger King brand has a presence in 27 countries throughout Latin America and the Caribbean and 15 years of positive comparable-sales growth. During fiscal 2008, the Latin America and Caribbean segment attained an important milestone with the opening of its 1,000 restaurant for the region.
