Burger King net up 21 percent

BOSTON — Global comparable-store sales at Burger King Holdings Inc. increased 5.8 percent for the fiscal 2008 third quarter ended March 31, 2008, the company has announced. Year-to-date, global comps are up 5.4 percent.
Comps for the company's U.S. and Canada operations are up 5.4 percent for the quarter and 5.4 percent for the fiscal year, while comps in Latin America are up 5.8 percent for the quarter and 4 percent for the fiscal year.
Comps for Burger King's Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia operations are up 6.8 percent for the quarter and 5.6 percent for the fiscal year.
Revenues for the third quarter were $594 million, up 10 percent compared with revenues of $539 million for the fiscal 2007 third quarter. Year-to-date, revenues were $1.8 billion, up 10 percent compared with revenues of $1.6 billion for the first nine months of FY '07.
Net income for the third quarter was $41 million, up 21 percent compared with net income of $34 million for the 2007 third quarter. Year-to-date, net income was $139 million, up 24 percent compared with net income of $112 million for the same period last year.
Burger King operates more than 11,400 restaurants in all 50 states and 70 countries and U.S. territories around the world. The company opened 60 new restaurants during the quarter.
