Burger King Q4 comps up 5.3%

MIAMI — Comparable-store sales at Burger King Holdings Inc. restaurants increased 5.3 percent for the fourth quarter ended June 30, 2008, making it the 18th consecutive quarter of worldwide positive comparable-store sales.
 
In the United States and Canada, comps increased 5.5 percent, making it the 17th consecutive quarter of positive sales growth. In Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific, comps were up 4.7 percent, and in Latin America, comps increased 5.2 percent for the quarter.
 
Positive same-store sales and a net restaurant increase of 282 drove worldwide revenues to $636 million, up 10 percent from $590 million in the same period last year. Year-to-date revenues reached a record $2.5 billion, up 10 percent from $2.2 billion at the end of fiscal year 2007.
 
Net income increased to $51 million, up 42 percent from $36 million in the same period last year. Year-to-date net income was $190 million, up 25 percent from $152 million a year ago.
