Burger King scholars program fundraiser sets record

June 30, 2014

The Burger King McLamore Foundation’s 12th annual Jim McLamore Golf Invitational raised more than $275,000, a record-breaking amount. Funds raised from this year’s event will go toward the Burger King Scholars Program.

Steve Lewis, president of U.S. Restaurants Inc., a Burger King franchisee, and co-chairman of the foundation's board of directors, has hosted the event since its inception in 2002.

"This Invitational was created in memory of Jim McLamore and two of his greatest passions, golf and education," Lewis said in a news release. "Twelve years later, I am honored to continue to play a special part in our brand's flagship program, which impacts the future of so many students year after year."

Supporters of the event included Burger King Corp. executives, system franchisees and vendors. Long-time sponsors of the program include The Coca-Cola Company, Dr Pepper Snapple Group and Heinz Foodservice, among others. Since 2000, the Burger King Scholars program has helped more than 22,000 students pursue a higher education by granting more than $22.6 million in scholarships, the release said.
