Burger King walks raise funds for charity

May 6, 2009

MIAMI — Burger King kicked-off its 2009 BKC Global Convention in Las Vegas with a BK Positive Steps fundraising walk for the Have It Your Way Foundation, the charitable arm of the Burger King brand.

Nearly 100 Burger King employees, franchisees and vendors participated in the BK Positive Steps fundraising walk through the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. With the help of donations from event sponsors Heinz and MICROS, the participants raised more than $19,000 for the Have It Your Way Foundation. Proceeds raised will benefit the BK Family Fund, which provides short-term emergency financial assistance to Burger King system employees who are victims of disasters or other emergency hardship situations.

"The BK Family Fund was established to offer support to members of the Burger King family in times of need," said Anne Chwat, executive vice president and general counsel, Burger King Corp. and president of the Have It Your Way Foundation. "Since 2005, the BK Family Fund has granted more than $650,000 in emergency funding to Burger King employees."

In a separate event last month, employees from Burger King Corp.'s Restaurant Support Center in Miami took a break from their jobs on April 22 to celebrate Earth Day by participating in the another of the company's BK Positive Steps walk-a-thons.

The two-mile walk raised more than $1,500 for the Have it Your Way Foundation with more than 150 employees participating.
