Captain D's finds a home in 'My Ol' Kentucky Home'

Dec. 6, 2017

Captain D's is opening in what Kentuckians call 'My Ol' Kentucky Home's' home of Bardstown, Kentucky, where much of the imagery described in that well-known pre-Kentucky Derby song's was derived. The new location on North Third Street is also the brand's second to open this week and 39th to open in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, a news release said.

The Bardstown Captain D's is owned and operated by brother-and-sister team, Shaun Hill and Kelly Boernsen, who are Bardstown natives and first-time franchisees with the company. The siblings began their professional partnership when they opened a real estate company in their hometown before venturing into the restaurant industry together.

Hill has a background in fast casual operation as the owner of two franchised Buffalo Wings & Rings since 2009. The Bardstown Captain D's will celebrate its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in January.

"After franchising with Buffalo Wings & Rings for the past eight years, I was looking for an opportunity to diversify my portfolio," Hill said in the release. "The compounding success the brand has achieved over the past several years, along with the unparalleled support and training it offers franchisees, made it a very attractive business opportunity to my sister and I."

Captain D's ongoing franchise development in Kentucky is fueled by the brand's success and accompanies expansion from agreements signed this year to open new restaurants nationwide, including Florida, South Carolina, Texas, Georgia, Illinois, Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas and Virginia.
