Captain D's started this week by opening its second corporate location in Spartanburg, South Carolina, in the past six months. Another location was opened last November in the north-central South Carolina city, according to a news release.
The ribbon-cutting for the restaurant's opening takes place Thursday morning. The store corporately owned and operated in Spartanburg and is the chain's second ground-up restaurant in the Upstate area since the early 1990s. The location sports the seafood chain's new beach design and has a drive-thru window.
"In the past few years, our brand has experienced tremendous growth and success. …" said Michael Arrowsmith, Captain D's chief development officer. "We're excited that leveraging our recent success has allowed us to re-enter and grow in areas like Spartanburg, and look forward to continuing to strengthen the brand's presence nationwide."
Next up in the South Carolina expansion plans is the opening of another corporate location in Easley later this summer. South Carolina franchise growth for Captain D's was a record-breaker in 2015. Likewise, there was a 4.3 percent same-store sales increase for the entire fiscal year. According to the news release, that's the 17th consecutive quarter and fifth consecutive year of positive growth.
Captain D's has 517 restaurants in 26 states and has made a move to become part of the fast casual sector of the industry after redesigning many of its stores and menu items. The company, headquartered in Nashville, was founded in 1969.
