Carl's Jr. comps flat in Q1

CARPINTERIA, Calif. — Same-store sales at CKE Restaurants Inc.'s Hardees brand rose 0.6 percent for the four-week period ended May 21, the company announced. For the fiscal 2008 first quarter, comps at Hardee's rose 1.8 percent.
Comps at the company's Carl's Jr. brand fell 0.9 percent for the four-week period and were flat for the quarter, according to the company.
Revenues from company-operated Carl's Jr. restaurants were approximately $181.2 million in the first quarter, while revenues from company-operated Hardee's restaurants were approximately $199.2 million.
During the period, Carl's Jr. promoted its Buffalo Chicken Sandwich and Boneless Buffalo Wings. The brand also recently announced the introduction of a Hawaiian Teriyaki Burger and Orangesicle Hand-Scooped Ice Cream Shakes & Malts, but those items were not available in restaurants until after the end of period four.
Hardee's introduced its Breakfast Club Sandwich at the start of period four and introduced the Patty Melt Thickburger during the last week of period four, although media support did not begin until period five. Hardee's brand continued to feature the Big Twin and Southwest Chicken Salad.
