Carl's Jr. expands to Indonesia

August 5, 2010

Carl's Jr. restaurant has opened in Jakarta, Indonesia. This is the first of at least 25 planned Carl's Jr. restaurants to open in the region throughout the next six years.

The 25-restaurant development deal is part of CKE Restaurants, Inc.'s plan to accelerate franchise ownership throughout Asia. In May, Carl's Jr. opened in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

CKE's development agreement was made with the Mesa Asia Pacific Trading Services Company Limited Group to open 25 additional Carl’s Jr. restaurants. Currently, Carl’s Jr.'s are located in China, Singapore, Malaysia, Russia, Mexico and American Samoa.

The Indonesian restaurants will be operated by PT. Fortune Food International, whose parent company, PT. Aneka Makmur Sejahtera Group, Inc., specializes in sales of Yamaha motorcycles, parts and Dunlop tires. PT. Aneka Makmur Sejahtera Group, Inc. has exclusive rights to develop Carl’s Jr. restaurants in Jakarta and Bali, Indonesia.

Currently, CKE franchises 346 international restaurants between both its Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s brands. The company plans to double its international presence within the next five years.
