Carl's Jr. and Hardee's have joined forces with Midnight Moon Moonshine to introduce the Midnight Moonshine burger, available now at participating restaurants nationwide, according to a press release from CKE Restaurants Holdings, parent company of Carl's Jr. and Hardee's.
Served on the chains' fresh baked buns, the Midnight Moonshine burger features a charbroiled, 100-percent Black Angus beef patty with the Midnight Moon Moonshine glaze, pepperjack cheese, garlic-pepper onion straws and Applewood-smoked bacon.
"Branded, alcohol-flavored menu items have been popular in sit-down restaurants for a number of years now but Carl's Jr. and Hardee's were the first to bring them to the fast food industry," said Brad Haley, CMO for Carl's Jr. and Hardee's restaurants. "We've done bourbon- and beer-flavored burgers and sandwiches before but the rapidly rising popularity of legalized moonshine led us to start playing around with it in our test kitchens. We loved the sweet burn you get when you put a moonshine-flavored glaze on a burger, and the addition of crispy garlic-pepper onion straws, spicy pepper-Jack cheese, Applewood-smoked bacon and fresh produce really took it over the top."
The charbroiled burger is available in various patty sizes starting at $4.39, and can be ordered as a combo meal with fries and a drink starting at $6.89. Prices may vary.
"We are proud that Carl's Jr. and Hardee's selected Midnight Moon Moonshine as the special ingredient in their delicious sweet and smoky glaze," said Joe Michalek, founder of Piedmont Distillers, the maker of Midnight Moon Moonshine. "Our commitment to crafting the best-tasting moonshine has made Midnight Moon America's favorite moonshine, and now, it's on one of America's favorite burgers."
Carl's Jr. and Hardee's will promote the Midnight Moonshine Burger with an ad campaign titled "Making 'Shine," featuring a soon-to-be-revealed, multi-faceted star, the release stated. The spot will also include an original song written and performed by country music star Jessie James Decker. The commercial will begin airing on TV nationally on March 28 as well as on the chains' YouTube channels.
