Carl's Jr. introduces summer-inspired salad

July 20, 2010

Each summer brings a glimpse into what it must be like year-round in sunny Hawaii. Carl's Jr. has used this inspiration by offering Hawaiian summer promotional tie-ins all season. The latest item to be introduced is the Hawaiian Grilled Chicken Salad.

The salad showcases Hawaiian flavors, and includes sliced, grilled chicken breast, grilled Dole pineapple, fresh red onion and cucumber slices on a bed of mixed spring salad greens. It is topped with Asian sesame dressing and wonton strips. These ingredients, including the grilled Dole pineapple, take a cue from the salad's menu predecessors, the Carl's Jr. Teriyaki Burger and Teriyaki Chicken Sandwich. The latter item was introduced in May.

Carl's Jr. was the first major quick-service restaurant chain to offer a teriyaki burger with grilled pineapple — an offering more typically found in casual dining burger restaurants.

“The Carl’s Jr. Hawaiian Grilled Chicken Salad is unique in the world of fast-food salads and it’s perfect for the hot days of summer,” said Brad Haley, executive vice president of marketing at Carl’s Jr. “The grilled chicken breast, grilled pineapple, fresh produce and Asian sesame dressing together create a delicious flavor combination. It’ll bring a taste of the tropics to our guests no matter where they live.”
