Carl's Jr. opens 500th Green Burrito restaurant

September 22, 2010

Carl’s Jr. will celebrate the grand opening of its 500th dual-branded Green Burrito restaurant Friday in Anaheim, Calif.

Green Burrito is the fourth-largest Mexican quick-service restaurant chain in the U.S.

"Dual-branding is a win-win for our brands; guests have a wider variety of choices, and that drives increased traffic and sales into each unit,” said Michael Murphy, president of CKE Restaurants, parent company of Carl's Jr.

The new Green Burrito restaurant is the chain’s most environmentally-friendly store.

The restaurant was made with 70 percent recycled steel framing. It has also been awarded LEED certification, a third-party verification process to determine if a building project meets the highest sustainable measures.

Other green features include a computer-operated electrical system to monitor light and temperature inside the restaurant and the use of ENERGY STAR-rated appliances.

“Our commitment to the environment with the development of these green restaurants is more than just lip service; it is a point of pride throughout the company and can be held up as an example for other businesses that sustainability should be a top priority,” said Murphy.

The Anaheim community is encouraged to attend the grand opening on Friday at 2820 E. Lincoln from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Live music, free food sampling and the chance to win a $1,000 Best Buy gift card will be offered at the event.

The new restaurant is open 6 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday and 24 hours on the weekends.
